(New Orleans, November 30, 2009)- ‘Tis the season to experience the French Quarter as it provides a shopping experience unparalleled with seasonal décor and holiday entertainment throughout the month. Go green and beat the mall traffic; take the streetcar down to shop local!
December 5th, Jackson Square merchants invite all to a day filled with holiday cheer with a truly New Orleans flare.
Following the Krewe of Kringle Parade on Canal Street the French Quarter merchants surrounding Jackson Square will host a day of book signings, trunk shows, free gift wrapping, Santa & Mrs. Claus story time and live local entertainment. It is a perfect way to be entertained while you shop locally for the unique gifts found only in the French Quarter’s specialty shops.

+ 3-5 pm New Orleans String Project
+ 5-6:30 pm Shades of Praise Gospel Choir
+ 6-8 pm John Besh cookbook signing at the 1850’s House
Participating stores are offering libations and treats during the 5-8 pm extended shopping hours. A special gift basket filled with items from each of the stores will be given away at 7 pm. Register in any of the stores to be entered to win.

More than 100 festivities are planned during the month-long event, showcasing the cultural diversity that adds spice to the gumbo of New Orleans' heritage.
During this season, famed New Orleans chefs share culinary secrets in free cooking demonstrations, public concerts feature popular musicians and gospel choirs will perform sacred tunes in the majestic St. Louis Cathedral. Also, Restaurants serve the Reveillon, an adaptation of an old Creole dining custom, and hotels offer attractive Papa Noel rates.
